A giant step towards sustainability. For the past few weeks, it has been difficult to say that Dijon Football Côte d’Or has not changed its face with the arrival of Pascal Dupraz on the club’s bench. While the DFCO was in the red zone for weeks, the coach managed to get out of it by winning on the lawn of Nîmes Olympique (1-2) during the 36th day of Ligue 2. A Dijon victory which condemned the Nîmes to relegation and on which the Auvergne coach spoke in the post-match conference.
“I’m going to start by saying that our club, all the players, the staff and the administrators, must keep moderation because the father of Senou Coulibaly (DFCO defender) has died. Our thoughts are with him, we want just tell him that we support him. Football is magic, it’s our passion, but our duty as I speak is to accompany him. Ironically, I had to bring him in, I didn’t. He needs to know that we are all with him, I speak on behalf of the club since these are the words that the president said in the locker room. Then, it is fashionable to underline the courage of Nîmes, relegated today. For all that they have accomplished, the coach, his staff and the players. It is a brave team, which has talent and which knows, as we have all known or almost, the pangs of relegation. We have a thought for them, and then as far as we are concerned, I hope that we will not accompany them because there is still a lot of work, a long way to go.
It was the 7th episode of our story, it is very personal, it concerns us all. We still have a chance to maintain ourselves and we still have the possibility of being relegated, I hope not! We mustn’t declare victory too quickly, but let’s measure this chance that we have given ourselves because all the players in the group have been performing brilliantly for seven weeks now. We were in difficulty today, some weren’t in it… Was it the trip? The fact that it was hot in the hotel? We’re not going to look for an excuse, I think we let ourselves go a bit. All of this sounded like a warning, albeit at no cost.”
