Four finalists for one place. Dijon will know at the end of the day this Thursday if it is the European green city 2022. In the meantime, the cities in the running (Dijon, Grenoble, Turin in Italy and Tallinn in Estonia) defend their candidacy in turn by videoconference in front of the jury.

The European Green City Prize has been awarded every year since 2010 by the European Commission. It distinguishes cities whose action in favor of the environment is considered the most positive. The name of the winning city will be announced this Thursday 8 October by Lithuanian Virginijus Sinkevičius, European Commissioner for the Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. Dijon will try its luck again if it fails
Beyond the positive impact on the image of the city, this distinction is materialized by a bonus of 350,000 euros. Dijon had already applied in 2018 and finished in fourth place. If it doesn’t win the title this year, the city has already planned to run again.

To apply, a city must have more than 100,000 inhabitants and be part of the member countries of the European Union, candidate countries to join the Union (Albania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey), or Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland.
