During the Age of Enlightenment, fashion took on an increasingly important place in society. Aristocrats and bourgeois seized on fashions to impress their contemporaries and display by all means and in all contexts the luxuries they were able to afford. The exhibition Fashionable, the art of appearing in the 18th centurye century offers a taste of this widespread and shared cult of appearance, first of all through series of iconic portraits of illustrious personalities who pose, confident, in their most beautiful outfits.
