Dijon / Chalon-sur-Saône. They call on elected officials to give out of pocket for students

As we know, the most precarious students are among the great victims of the health crisis. To find funding to help them, the Dijon branch of the association The Students’ Parliament has decided to launch an appeal to elected officials in the region, explains The Journal of Saône-et-Loire. It was Chalonnais Alex Solomonyan, a law student in Dijon, who had this idea. He thus launched an online jackpot aiming to support the solidarity association Épi’Campus which offers food aid to students in need on the Dijon campus.

Raise awareness and empower elected officials

To fill this pot, the Students’ Parliament will knock directly on the door of elected officials in the region. He does not ask them for a subsidy (many communities already have put things in place for students), but a personal donation. A symbolic gesture: opening their own wallet to show their support for a suffering youth. “In the end, it is always the taxpayer who pays since the allowances come from our taxes, smiles Alex Solomonyan, but it raises the awareness of elected officials more directly. It is a little less purchasing power for them, in a way it empowers them. “

In Côte-d’Or, but also in Saône-et-Loire, the student (who was a candidate for last municipal on Alain Rousselot-Pailley’s LREM list in Chalon-sur-Saône) and his comrades solicited elected officials from all sides.

Elected officials have already opened their wallets

In 10 days, the Leetchi jackpot received 21 first donations for a total of € 1,285. Among the first donors, we find François Sauvadet, president of the UDI of the Department of Côte-d’Or, the deputy LREM Didier Martin or even Hamid El Hassouni, the deputy mayor PS of Dijon in charge of youth. In Saône-et-Loire, the LREM deputy Rémy Rebeyrotte also gave 40 €. Sylvain Dumas, mayor of Farges-lès-Chalon, is also one of the donors.

Alex Solomonyan, who wants to collect at least € 6,000, now calls on other elected officials in the region to make, in turn, a symbolic gesture for students in difficulty.

The young Chalonnais would also like to set up an Epi-Campus branch in Chalon-sur-Saône.

Even if you are not elected, donations to the Leetchi “Dijon student fundraising” pot are welcome.
