Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

President Director of PT BCA Tbk Jahja Setiaatmadja say work position back office will be lost because digital transformation. However, he emphasized that the company will not terminate the employees (PHK) back office.

“We experienced it once at BCA, back office it could be hundreds, yesterday the issue arose that there would be layoffs, no we didn’t lay off them, we will try to transform. However, his job was lost, work back office almost every branch has been lost, “he said in a webinar entitled ‘Traditional Bank Vc Challenger Banks in The Era of Open Banking’, Tuesday (29/9).

As an illustration, a task back office himself, taking care of reports for sales or marketing, finance, and administrative matters, among other things. Currently, these activities have been carried out by the system.

Apart from the back office, Jahja mentioned a number of work positions that can be done digitally, namely accountants at each branch office.

“When we were still not digital, everything was manual, managing accounts between branches alone could be 200 people. Now there is no need, now no one does it all automatically,” he added.

He said to carry out digital transformation in a bank must start from the internal digitization of the bank itself. At BCA itself, Jahja has approximately 1,000 employees who handle IT. To streamline business processes, he divided the 1,000 employees into mini companies (mini company) about 43-44 people.

“Why did we break up because in the past, with our old system such as a waterfall, we were waiting for process approval, so that one program could wait for a year before it was completed. Now it is spelled out weeks, months, subject to approval, so the construction is very fast,” he explained.

Furthermore, each mini company consists of 2-4 project teams (scrum teams). The team consists of workers with various professional backgrounds ranging from business, IT, product design, and legal.

“This bank is different from fintech. There are risks that must be considered so that there is legal compliance with legal provisions, then businesses must also understand, then technology, and designers,” he said.
