On the 31st of August, a virtual workshop on “Digital Transformation to Mobile Intelligent Banking” was hosted by Mauritius Africa Fintech Hub (MAFH) in collaboration with Huawei Technologies Mauritius. The event saw nearly 100 registrations including leaders, change-makers and innovators in Mauritius, South Africa, UK, Madagascar, amongst others. The virtual conference was seen as a watershed in bringing major industry players together, creating possibilities for all the stakeholders to better understand and participate in the current fintech trends.
In this context, Mr. Chen Zhentao, Director FSI, Southern Africa Region at Huawei, has illuminated the audience on “Digital Transformation to Mobile Intelligent Banking”. The topics ranged from evolution of FSI, Mobile Intelligent Banking, Huawei Solutions, Application Scenarios, amongst others. In a statement after the presentation, Mr. Chen Zhentao highlighted that most banks take different actions regarding digital transformation, that is, some banks focus on the retail business, others on the mobile while some others on open banking only to state a few. Basically, banks intend to provide agile and security services to their customers and improve customer services.
Mr. Chen also said that “Huawei’s solutions are divided into 5 area. The first one is Mobile Service which help banks build the mobile channel and services. The second solution is Core Banking which deals with users and provide instant services like saving and loan for the customers. The third solution is smart branch while the fourth one is Infrastructure Architecture to enable new innovative business. The last solution is the data lake platform.”
Mr. Michal Szymanski, CEO of Mauritius Africa Fintech Hub underlined that the rise of mobile banking in Africa over the past few years has allowed more people to participate in the digital economy. He stated that “On a continent where internet access is still below 50%, allowing consumers to interact in the digital world through mobile technologies is key to unlocking economic growth. Facilitating the digital transformation of the banking sector is, therefore, of paramount importance and it’s great to see companies like Huawei contributing to driving this revolution.”
