The municipalities of Petroupoli and Mytilini as well as those of Kalamata and Orestiada belong to the 52 municipalities of the country that joined the “Digital Transformation of Municipalities” action a few days ago.
The digital…upgrading of municipalities has been requested for a long time and through the action for Smart Cities, which is implemented through the “Digital Transformation” Program of the NSRF 2021-2027 with a total budget of 235,285,163 euros, projects are going to be implemented that will transform municipalities in “smart cities”.
After all, the modernization of OTAs with smart technology and IT applications for the benefit of residents, businesses, but also visitors to the municipalities, aims at sustainable movement, energy saving, strengthening local democracy, protection from cyber-attacks, the strengthening of digital infrastructures and, more broadly, the improvement of service to citizens, businesses and the quality of life of citizens.
It is worth noting that the budget for the specific 52 municipalities amounts to more than 39 million euros, while the amount for each municipality ranges from 210,000 to 2,770,000 euros depending on its population.
An average of ten projects will be implemented by the municipalities, which are selected based on local needs from a… list of 38 proposed projects. Among the most popular municipal proposals are the comprehensive infrastructure of protection against cyberattacks and the provision of a telework system. In fact, this particular proposal was chosen by 165 municipalities, while 17 less chose the central single platform for management and data collection of local government digital transformation actions as more popular. Traffic office organization and municipal vehicle fleet management, smart City / Municipality guide with local business registration and electronic payment management system are proposals that complete the magic “digital” five propositions.
According to the Minister of the Interior, Thodoris Livanios, the action for “Smart Cities” gives the municipalities the opportunity to offer better services to the public and to improve the quality of life of all citizens with the spearhead of technology.
