Digital platforms, ready to provide social security to delivery drivers

Mexico City. The Alliance In Mexico, a group that represents digital platforms Cabify, DiDi, Rappi and Uber, pointed out that these companies in the digital economy are willing to build a mechanism that allows delivery drivers to have social security as proposed by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo .

In the speech that the president offered at the beginning of her administration, she indicated that in October she will send an initiative to the Congress of the Union to guarantee the mandatory nature of mobile applications that grant social security to workers who use them to obtain income.

Alianza In México “reiterates its readiness to participate in the construction of a mechanism that facilitates access to social security for delivery people, with the contribution of the platforms,” he indicated.

The group commented that it shares the priority that was raised by the president on October 1. However, he requested that this mechanism be carried out through plural dialogue between the multiple parts of the ecosystem and that it puts the voice of the delivery people at the center.

As a starting point, Alianza In México commented that the discussion should focus on the factors “that delivery drivers appreciate most.”

In this sense, he commented that workers seek flexibility and independence, so the proposed policy must preserve these “fundamental elements of the model.”

He said that data from the opinion study on digital platforms in Mexico carried out by the pollster Buendía & Márquez, around 43 million people use digital platforms to acquire products or services, the same digital channels (applications, internet and social networks) that offer opportunities for independently income for 2 million 500 thousand people in the country.

“Mexico has a historic opportunity to be an international benchmark and achieve a unique agreement of its kind that involves the government, the delivery communities, and digital platforms,” said Guillermo Malpica, executive director of the association.

“At Alianza In México we are convinced that the best design of a public policy is one that focuses on responding to the unmet needs of the population, and one that is built through a participatory and inclusive process,” highlighted the director. .

The group pointed out that the recent reform of the Social Security Law regarding independent workers, made progress in recognizing one of the most important challenges on the public agenda, which is to give access to social security to people who generate income independently. .

He reiterated that in the case of delivery people, the technological platforms are “willing to contribute so that this objective is achieved, and continue the dialogue started during the previous administration for the benefit of delivery people.”

Alianza In proposed that a formal space for plural dialogue be established where all the voices of the actors involved are heard.

He also proposed that proposals be based on data and evidence, taking into account the different cases at the international level and their results, as well as the current discussion in international forums.

The organization said it is confident that, through dialogue between all actors, a regulation will be reached that is an example at the international level regarding the incorporation into social security of delivery women and men who use digital platforms to obtain income and improve their living conditions. .
