Digital Insurance Podcast: The Morality of Insurance

Insurance events and conferences are usually about the latest technologies and what can be done with them. We forget the people who keep turning the wheel of insurance every day. How can we measure their importance and how can we maintain their morale in the company? In this issue, Jonas Piela talks about this with Marcus Loskant, board member of LVM Versicherung.

Ensuring smooth everyday life

The status quo in an organization is taken for granted. As a rule, you only complain to these people when something doesn’t work and not when everything is going smoothly, says Loskant.

He talks about the professional groups that, in his opinion, receive too little attention: clerks, security, but also people in the kitchen and canteen. He finds a good example in the area of cyber defense. An insurer like LVM only occasionally experiences a handful of minutes of server downtime. Nobody thanks the security department for the many days when there are no problems.

Part of the profile of a good leader

Marcus Loskant sees it as part of his job to improve this situation. As a manager, you don’t see all 700 employees in the organization every day. He says: “So you also need structure, you need managers who take this topic seriously, who say: […] We also value. We also commend those who just keep us safe.”

The right praise in the right place

“No complaining is praise enough” is a saying that people often hear in Münster and the region, says Loskant. However, he sees it differently. A simple “thank you” can make a big difference. However, it is important that it does not seem artificial – as if someone is ticking off a checklist. It doesn’t have to happen every day, but it has to fit the situation. Piela and Loskant agree that this ability is simply part of the job profile of a modern, competent manager.

outlook

The two also talk about how to deal with criticism correctly, the pyramid principle in emails and why LVM Versicherung describes its sales people as people they trust.
