The techs at Digital Foundry have finally gotten their hands on the new version of System Shock, which is an updated version of the 1994 classic. Editor of the publication John Linneman analyzed the visual features of the project and assessed the quality of the work done by the Nightdive studio, which has been developing the project for a long seven years. Despite production difficulties, the remake looks and works great, which left the reviewer delighted. The expert did not hold back his emotions and called System Shock “the best remake in history.”

As Linneman notes, the developers of the updated edition of System Shock succeeded in what other remake creators did not. The expert praised the atmosphere of the game, which managed to maintain the aesthetics of the original 1994 project. At the same time, the remake uses modern graphics, the latest lighting technology, and there is a high detail of objects in all places of the game. Some locations have been heavily modified for the remake, but they remain very recognizable, as demonstrated in a video from Digital Foundry.

The unusual combination of visual styles received special praise. The remake skillfully combines original materials such as pixelated textures and complex level layouts, while they were created in a modern way, so the game creates a pleasant feeling of nostalgia. The technical expert also praised the performance of the System Shock remake. According to him, there is only one problem in the game with rare freezes due to the compilation of shaders.
