Digital Foundry specialist Richard Leadbetter posted a technical analysis video Hogwarts Legacy on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. The video was delayed as the Eurogamer department waited for the first day patch. The site itself does not mention the material in any way, since the Eurogamer portal does not cover the game due to J.K. Rowling.
Leadbetter was satisfied with the technical state of the game, but there were still some shortcomings. For example, facial animations, lack of shadow maps, average water reflections in non-traced modes, flickering textures and lighting bugs leave mixed feelings.
-
Hogwarts Legacy on older consoles has five graphics modes, on Series S – only three
-
Series X/PS5 – “Quality”, “Performance”, “Quality with beams”, “Balance” and “High FPS”
-
Performance mode on Series X 60 FPS but with drops, 1440p resolution; PS5 performs better in this mode
-
“Quality” produces a picture at 1728p with much more vegetation and draw distance; “Beam quality” is in dynamic 1440p, both modes are 30 FPS, but with beams the dips are more noticeable
-
Ray tracing in Hogwarts Legacy offers nothing outstanding
-
“Balance” runs at 120Hz and gives 40 FPS with stutters, “High FPS” aims for 120 FPS but actually gives 60-90 FPS at 1080p
-
Graphically Hogwarts Legacy identical on PS5 and Xbox Series X
-
The Series S version of the game in “Performance” mode is at 792p, “Quality” and “Balance” at 1080p; in “Quality” stable 30 frames per second
-
Fast downloads on all three systems
Leadbetter believes that Hogwarts Legacy it performs well on PS5, but the Xbox Series X|S version still needs to be improved. The Digital Foundry expert is looking forward to the previous generation and Switch versions of the game.
