Episode 6 with Ingrid Brodnig: Brutality on the Internet and how we can resist it
Data:
November 12, 2024, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
This time Ingrid Brodnig, an expert on disinformation and hate on the Internet, is the guest of the Digital Fight Club. She describes how the climate in social networks and the media is becoming increasingly harsh and how debates are deliberately emotionally charged and manipulated. Patterns of public argument, attacks on public figures, fake news and anti-right-wing campaigns, reinforced by social media mechanisms, ensure that genuine and constructive discussions online are increasingly difficult.
To combat this, we need tools that help us stay clear and consciously decide how we want to talk about topics. It is important to understand how this brutality is deliberately used to achieve political goals and toxic debates. In her speech, the author and journalist shows how we can protect ourselves against attempts to divide and achieve and protect fair discussions.
