DigiD was available for a few hours on Monday evening due to a malfunction. The website was plagued with ddos attacks. As a result, many users were unable to access various government websites. At the end of the evening the problem was solved and everyone was able to access again.
In a ddos attack, a large amount of traffic is sent from several computers to a server. Because the server cannot handle so much traffic at the same time, the services running on that server crash.
