Ahmad Dhani said Once was the most expensive vocalist for Dewa 19. Once admitted that he could understand Ahmad Dhani’s intention.
Once accepted if not invited to tour Dewa 19, because there is another schedule that must also be lived. It is known, Once is also pursuing his solo career.
However, he refused to say that he was not involved in the Dewa 19 tour because it was the most expensive.
“I can’t always play with Dewa, I’m a bit reluctant because Dewa always has three other vocalists and I have a solo career for me to pursue,” Once said during a press conference in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, Friday (31/3/2023) Evening.
The other three vocalists of Dewa 19 that Once referred to were Ari Lasso, Virzha and Ello.
“It’s that simple. It doesn’t mean it’s expensive (paid price) or anything,” said Once.
“In my opinion (Ahmad Dhani’s words) are reasonable.”
“It means that this is our choice, whether we want to continue to be in Dewa’s show or not. What’s more, I’m no longer a member of Dewa 19. I think there should be freedom, sometimes playing sometimes not,” he continued.
Once became a permanent vocalist at Dewa 19 in 2000. He then decided to leave 11 years later.
After that, Once developed his career as a solo singer. He has released several albums, such as Once (2012), Intrinsic (2015), and Sigma (2023).
In his long time at Dewa 19, Once knew very well how it felt to be the vocalist of this big band.
