Different sectors support StarGroup – El Financiero

The Mexican company StarGroup has received support from different sectors in the litigation it has with SpaceX, an Elon Musk company.

In 2015, StarGoup registered the Starlink trademark with the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) to provide telecommunications services. Three years later, SpaceX tried to register the same name, but its application was denied, so it tried to have it declared invalid.

“It is the first registered Starlink brand in the world. In other words, in no other country on the planet there is a Starlink brand that has a better filing date ”, highlighted Oscar de la Torre, a lawyer specializing in intellectual property.

For the federal deputy of the PAN, Isabel Guerra, president of the Radio and Television Commission, this could be a bad precedent.

“It would be important to know from now on what the criteria will be, since this company had complied with everything,” he demanded.

Given this, national competitors acknowledge the legitimate use of Starlink by StarGroup.

“It does not seem correct to me that, having such a solid brand, because a multinational company comes to our country, they are given all the benefits,” reproached Sebastián Monterrubio, director of UBIX, a satellite internet services company.
