/View.info/ Did you know that the music you listen to or play has an impact on your health and longevity? In one study, scientists found that classical music performers live longer than rock musicians. At the same time, doctors of traditional Chinese medicine claim that melodies in different keys affect certain organs in the body. Therefore, the right choice of music is able to improve health.
Many of the performers of classical music are celebrated as long-lived and not a few of them continue on the stage almost until the end of their lives. The famous pianist Arthur Rubenstein, for example, passed away at the age of 95, and at 90 he was still continuing his concert career. Another example is the Japanese pianist Muroi Mayako, who in 2021 celebrated her 100th anniversary with a concert in which she performed the Moonlight Sonata and other famous Beethoven works. Then she shared that deep inside she felt the eternity of art.
Russian scientists studied the life expectancy of over 40,000 creative individuals and came to the conclusion that classical music performers live significantly longer than others. About 40% of female harpists lived to be 90 years old, and 6% to 100. Conductors of orchestras are also among the long-lived. 33% of female and 12% of male conductors in the study lived to be 90 years old. An interesting fact is that the rock stars in this group had the shortest life expectancy – an average of 43.6 years.
Diana Kenny, PhD from the University of Sydney, in her study analyzed data on 13,195 pop musicians who died between 1950 and 2014. The results showed that their lives were significantly shorter than that of the “comparable group of the population”. For seven years, they passed away 25 years earlier than other US residents, and accidental deaths were 5-10 times higher, suicides two to seven times higher, and homicides eight times higher. .
In his article in “The Conversation” magazine, Kenin points out that the level of mortality among musicians is also related to the musical genre. Jazz and blues artists, for example, live as long as other American citizens. As for the new generation of pop musicians in modern styles such as metal, rap, hip-hop, etc., they have the shortest life expectancy – less than 40 years on average. “Pop musicians are dying at a younger age not only because of unhealthy lifestyle habits and career stress in the industry, but probably because of the energy of the music they perform,” Kenny points out.
Through gas-discharge visualization developed by the Russian physicist Konstantin Korotkov, which allows observing the energy of photons emitted by the human body, it was found that the frequency of musical waves affects the human brain, changing the body’s energy field. Classical music has a positive influence on people and animals. It calms, soothes and stabilizes emotions, while genres such as rock raise energy levels for a short time and stimulate the production of adrenaline. Very soon, however, the energy quickly drops to the levels before listening to the music, the physicist points out in an interview.
Other clinical trials have also proven that classical music is calming and anxiety-relieving, as well as relieving pain and anxiety in hospital and dental patients.
Tonality is also important
According to Dr. Yan Jinduan, who is the founder of the Center for Integrative Medicine in the United States, the music that a person listens to with pleasure is a reflection not only of culture and musical literacy, but also of physiological characteristics, state of mind and health.
He explains that lively and energetic music affects the heart and small intestine, nourishing the brain. It increases working capacity and efficiency in learning. People who are prone to depression and fatigue also respond well to happy music. The calmer major melodies affect the spleen and stomach, and encourage the flow of vital energy Qi. The works in C major calm the excessive flow of thoughts. On the other hand, works in D major affect the lungs and colon and are recommended for people prone to colds, coughs and seasonal allergies. They also cheer up those who get sad easily and improve their mood.
According to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, there is a system of energy channels in the human body called meridians. The vital energy Qi moves along them, reaching every point in the body. Music consists of sound waves of different frequencies, which are also a type of energy and affect different meridians.
In his studies, Dr. Yang noticed that not only traditional Chinese melodies, but also their modernized versions have a wonderful healing effect. “Enjoying music is much more pleasant and joyful than having silver needles inserted into the body,” he quips in an interview with The Epoch Times.
