Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The outbreak of monkeypox (monkeypox) is becoming a concern for the world’s citizens, including in Indonesia. So far, Indonesia has reported ten suspected monkeypox. Nine among them has been declared negative, while one last suspect from Pati, Central Java, is still being investigated.
Monkeypox or monkeypox has been declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO). With monkeypox declared a state of emergency, this means that the WHO now views the outbreak as a significant threat to global health.
The Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) then formed a Task Force (Satgas) regarding the handling of monkeypox in Indonesia. On the other hand, the public is advised to remain vigilant and immediately conduct an examination if they have symptoms similar to monkeypox.

Head of the Monkeypox PB IDI Task Force, Dr. Hanny Nilasari, SpKK, said that a number of symptoms of monkeypox can indeed be similar to other diseases such as bacterial infection (impetigo). However, in monkeypox patients, skin manifestations appear accompanied by fever and lymphadenopathy or swollen lymph nodes.
“One of the most typical symptoms of monkeypox is skin manifestations. So if we look at the suspect, it’s a skin disorder. Then it is added, for example, headache, fever that is more than 38 degrees Celsius, then there is lymphadenopathy,” explained Dr. Hanny, quoted from detikcom, Sunday (7/8/2022).
“So, those three things must be the difference from other viruses. If you have muscle pain, headaches, then sore throat is almost the same as a viral disease, such as the flu,” he continued.
Skin disorders in monkeypox patients are in the form of spots on certain body parts such as the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. The spots will become elastic and festering. However, the abnormalities felt by each patient can be different depending on the power of each body.
“In people who have a good immune system, generally it is not too heavy, but when the person has a heavy immune system, complications can occur,” explained Dr. Hanny.
For information, the following is a complete appeal from the Ministry of Health regarding efforts to prevent the transmission of monkeypox.
1. Implementing clean and healthy living behaviors, such as washing hands with soap;
2. Avoid direct contact with rats or primates and limit direct exposure to blood or meat that is not cooked properly;
3. Avoid physical contact with infected persons or contaminated materials;
4. Avoiding contact with wild animals or consuming bush meat;
5. Travelers who have just returned from monkeypox-infected areas should immediately check themselves if they have fever and enlarged lymph nodes in less than 3 weeks;
6. When checking in, residents inform health workers about their travel history; and
7. Health workers to use gloves and protective clothing when handling sick patients or animals
