Early November 2022 yesterday, holidays Whatsapp “Community” function officially released. This feature was scheduled to be released from 2021 yesterday. However, it was only released in early November 2022 yesterday.
With the slogan “Organized, private, connected“, characteristic WhatsApp community provides a structured, easy to use and securely encrypted communication channel from end to end. Compared to groups, the characteristics of the community are clearly different. what are the differences? Let’s see the article!
1. Members
Surely you know that WhatsApp groups can accommodate up to 512 members. In a WhatsApp group, members are personal contacts that can be added by the admin.
While the WhatsApp community has a slightly different concept. In fact, both communities have admins, but WhatsApp community members are groups on WhatsApp. No personal contacts.
With the launch of The Verge, communities are in fact designed to accommodate different related groups within a larger organization of people, such as neighborhoods or workplaces.
2. Interaction
When it comes to interaction, the WhatsApp group has more freedom. Of course you know that every member of a WhatsApp group can freely send and reply to messages between WhatsApp groups. However, this doesn’t apply to the WhatsApp community.
In a WhatsApp community, only administrators have the authority to send messages. The interaction in the Community is very one-way indeed. As a result, the WhatsApp community is indeed better suited for making announcements without any interaction.
3. Create groups and communities
Anyone can create a WhatsApp group. As long as the number used is already registered with WhatsApp, anyone can create a WhatsApp group and add contacts to that group.
Meanwhile for the Community the concept makes it a little more selective. If you want to create a WhatsApp Community, the contact you use must first become an admin on multiple groups. Admins can then collect or add the groups they manage into a single community.

4. Leave groups and communities
The concept of WhatsApp group members comes from the personal contacts added by the admin. Therefore, if you choose to leave the group, it means that you will no longer be connected to the group.
Since the concept of community members is a combination of WhatsApp groups, there is a fear that if you leave, you will also leave the group. But apparently not. If you leave a Community, you will only leave that Community. You will remain a member of the group until you choose to leave the group.
5. Management
To create a WhatsApp group, you can access the “New Group” option found in the menu for creating a new message. Then all you have to do is add members from contacts on your smartphone. In the context of deleting a group it takes a while effort. Deleting a WhatsApp group can be done by the admin by first removing the members one by one.
Meanwhile, creating a WhatsApp community can only be done by the admin by accessing the “Start Community” option under the “Community” tab. It’s on the far left with the “Three contacts” icon. To delete, a Community that has been created can be deleted or deactivated by the administrator directly via the “Community” tab, without first having to remove the members one by one.
