Did you know that the camera of the iPhone 12 Pro Max is slightly better than that of the normal Pro? Also, the largest iPhone ever wins in terms of battery life. In this iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone 12 Pro Max comparison, we consider the (small) differences between the best iPhones of 2020.

iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone 12 Pro Max
With four iPhone 12 phones, you have more choice than ever before. Where the differences between the ‘normal’ iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are obvious – think of the three camera lenses on the back and the LiDAR scanner – the Pro models are more difficult to distinguish from each other. However, they are certainly not identical. This is evident from this comparison.
1. Format and screen
The 12 Pro Max has the largest iPhone screen ever. The display measures 6.7 inches, which is great, because the iPhone 11 Pro Max has a smaller screen (6.5 inches) but is almost the same size in terms of dimensions. Apple has therefore designed the front of the 12 Pro Max more efficiently by reducing the black screen edges, also called bezels.
–
The iPhone 12 Pro has a 6.1-inch screen and is therefore identical in dimensions to the iPhone 12, this year’s cheaper entry-level model. Apart from the format and the screen size, the Pro and Pro Max differ little from each other. Both have a Super Retina XDR screen (OLED), roughly the same pixel ratio and the contrast ratio is identical.
2. Camera
The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max both have a triple camera system with a LiDAR scanner on the back, but there are some minor differences. For example, the telephoto lens of the Pro Max has an aperture of 2.2, while the normal Pro has to do with 2.0. The former lets a little more light into the sensor and you can see that (in theory) in the brightness of the photos.
Furthermore, the Pro Max has optical image stabilization with sensor shift. This means that the sensor physically moves with you while shooting and that produces a more stable image, and thus fewer blurred images.
–
This shifting sensor also comes in handy while making videos. This makes videos look less jerky. The iPhone 12 Pro does not have such a physical sensor on board, but mimics the effect by means of a software trick. As a result, the performance is slightly less than with the Pro Max.
Furthermore, the iPhone 12 Pro Max can zoom in a little further optically, so while photographing without loss of quality, get an image closer than its smaller brother: 2.5 times compared to 2 times. Also in terms of digital zoom, where the quality does bump backwards, the largest iPhone ever wins the longest. He can do this 12 times, instead of 10 times on the entry-level Pro.
3. Battery life and price
The iPhone 12 Pro Max has a longer battery life than its smaller brother. According to Apple itself, the Max model can play video for up to 20 hours. The normal Pro can last for up to 17 hours.
Finally, there is of course also a price difference between the two models. The iPhone 12 Pro starts at 1159 euros. For the iPhone 12 Pro Max you will have lost at least 1259 euros. The storage capacities are identical: 128, 256 and 512GB.

Purchase advice
The differences between the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max are not huge. The latter distinguishes itself mainly in the field of camera. For example, are you professionally involved with photography and filming? Then the iPhone 12 Pro Max undoubtedly draws the longest straw. Keep in mind that this device is very large with its 6.7-inch size.

The iPhone 12 Pro therefore has a slightly less camera, but the differences are small. For example, you don’t have a physically shifting sensor at your disposal, which provides stable images, unlike the Pro Max. The battery life also lags somewhat behind its bigger brother.
