Diewertje blok wants to get rid of girlish image: ‘I’m not just sweet’

A special place for Blok because her family has a history there. “EIn the late 1930s there were many Jewish refugees from Germany here. My grandmother was a famous artist at the time and organized a colorful evening there every Tuesday. My mother often went there too. I know that because I found a diary from my mother from 1939. ”

Diary

That diary taught the presenter a lot about her mother. In particular, that she looks more like her than she always thought. “What I read could have been in my own adolescent diary. It was only about falling in love and boys. ”

Blok’s mother was Jewish, her father was not. “He comes from a completely different background. More intellectual and scientific. I look like him too. I am really a mix of two different worlds and that is good. There should be more mixing. ”

The interview also shows that Blok prefers to see her image differently. “They see me as a sweet girl. That is not true. I also have an edge. And it is always said that I keep looking so young. I cherish my gray hair and wrinkles. I am delighted that I am starting to look a bit more mature. ”

The episode closes the duo with the search for Blok’s essence. When Aykol asks her exactly what that is, the conversation stops. She clearly has trouble naming her core, but eventually finds the right words: “In the end I think it’s optimistic, cheerful and warm.”
