Dietlikon: Cellar fire in apartment building causes high property damage

Shortly before 6 p.m., residents reported to the Zurich Protection & Rescue Operations Center that smoke was coming from the stairwell of an apartment building. The emergency services from the fire brigade and police, who arrived quickly on site, evacuated eight people and two cats from the burning building and from the attached neighboring house. The quick intervention of the fire brigade prevented the flames from spreading to the rest of the house. Neither people nor animals were injured by this fire. The affected building is connected to the local gas line. For this reason, the area had to be temporarily cordoned off over a large area.
For the time being, six apartments are no longer usable due to the heavy build-up of soot. The affected residents found shelter with relatives or acquaintances.
The exact damage to property cannot yet be quantified, but it should amount to several tens of thousands of francs.
The cause of the brewing has not yet been clarified. The fire investigation service of the Zurich cantonal police has started the investigation.

Because of the fire, a neighborhood street had to be closed to all traffic until 8:30 p.m. A detour was set up by the fire department.

In addition to the Zurich canton police, the Dietlikon, Bassersdorf and Wallisellen fire brigades, the Kloten city police, an inspector from the Canton of Zurich building insurance, three ambulances from the Uster and Bülach hospitals as a precaution, the responsible governor, specialists in gas and electricity supply and representatives of the municipal authorities were on duty .
