Turmeric supplements can cause hepatitis

The former could lead to acute hepatitis. Journal cites cases of “liver damage attributed to turmeric supplements”in Italy, Sweden and Norway, resulting in deaths due to the presence of “non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug known for liver damage”. Food supplements that contain it boast of improving cognitive functions, memory as well as giving energy and helping reduce fat, but animal studies have shown that it can cause “embryonic loss, weak fetal weights and severe birth defects “.

Review Prescribe concludes by warning consumers against the status of a food supplement in general which “does not guarantee much in terms of product composition”.
