London – A new study from Scotland reports that people who eat a diet full of vegetables, fruits, beans, whole grains and healthy fats have better cognitive functions as they get older.
During the study, conducted at the University of Edinburgh, a group of more than 500 elderly 79-year-olds were questioned about their eating habits and given a series of memory and reasoning challenges to test their thinking skills.
In addition, magnetic resonance imaging was performed over 350 meters to collect data about the structures of the IR brains and form a statistical model for comparison.
The experiment found that those who followed the Mediterranean diet and ate more leafy vegetables and little red meat during different stages of their lives had better mental faculties compared to other mothers.
