Following Volkswagen, Renault and Peugeot, France is now investigating Citroen for falsifying emissions data from older generations of diesel engines, Stellantis, the parent company of automaker.
“Investigating judges today launched an investigation against Citroen on the basis of allegations of fraud in the sale of diesel cars with a European standard for harmful emissions Euro 5, carried out in France between 2009 and 2015,” said in a statement Stelantis, quoted by AFP.
Citroen was required to pay a guarantee of 8m euros, including 6m euros for possible damages and fines, as well as a bank guarantee with an initial claim of 25m euros – “to compensate for any possible damages”, the company said.
Like Peugeot, Citroen is assessing the legitimacy of the measure and whether it can challenge it, Stelantis added.
