Diesel and petrol are much cheaper again, so the Dutch are coming to refuel here en masse (Maasmechelen)

Fueling diesel and petrol has been a lot cheaper since Saturday due to the measures taken by the government. On Saturday morning, there is a coming and going of Dutch people at gas stations in the border region, who hope to do a business here. “It saves 50 cents per litre, that goes up for a full tank”, it sounds.

For petrol 95 (E10), the maximum price at the pump in our country has fallen by 17.5 euro cents to 1,776 euro per litre. For petrol 98 (E5) there is also a decrease of 17.5 euro cents to 1,848 euro per litre. For diesel (B7) the maximum price has also fallen by 17.5 euro cents to 1.904 euro per litre.

The price decreases are a result of the reduction in excise duties. The government took this measure to reduce the high bills for citizens. The price for domestic heating oil then continues to rise.

Route adjusted

It was quite busy at Bruno’s in Maasmechelen on Saturday. The Dutch again cross the border en masse to refuel here. “We expect to be very busy, we have brought in extra staff,” it sounds at the gas station.

“With us I quickly lose 100 euros, here it is only 60 to 70 euros”, calculates a Dutch customer. The man lives in Kerkrade, near the German border, but drove to Maasmechelen especially. “And yet it pays off,” he is sure. Something that many other Dutch people agree with. “I have adjusted our route a bit to come here to refuel.”
