Dies in canyon along Gilf promenade in Merano

(ANSA) – BOLZANO, AUGUST 11 – A person has died in the canyon on the Passirio along the Gilf promenade in Merano, in Alto Adige. The volunteer firefighters intervened to search the water after a passerby had spotted a person just below the waterfall that descends into the gorge, which runs along the two banks of the waterway in the section where it enters the city. All available firefighters positioned themselves to occupy observation points. The nautical group from Merano instead proceeded directly into the canyon until they spotted the body. A particularly difficult recovery for the rescuers, made possible thanks to the rafting boat, the only one capable of reaching the site of the accident.
The authorities are investigating the causes of the accident. The emergency services worked for about an hour and a half. Volunteers from six different corps were alerted, as well as the helicopter with the divers of the fire brigade of the Permanent Corps, the Merano water rescue team, the Alpine rescue and the White Cross with an emergency doctor.
