MADRID — Atlético de Madrid coach Diego Simeone signed a contract extension on Thursday to continue with the club until June 2027. Atlético extended the agreement with the Argentine coach to give “continuity” to the project that began with his arrival in December 2011 “Since then, our institution is going through one of its most successful periods, during which we have won eight titles,” said Atlético. Simeone, 53, helped Atlético win two league titles, a Copa del Rey , two from the Europa League, two from the European Super Cup and one Spanish Super Cup. He also led the club to two Champions League finals. The former midfielder has led Atlético in 642 games, winning 380. He is the coach with the most official games in charge of the club and has been in charge of it for consecutive games in the Spanish league. Since his first full season at the helm, Atlético has qualified for every Champions League. Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.
