Diego Rodríguez Melo presents his work at the Villaurrutia Center

Mexico City, The Xavier Villaurrutia Literary Creation Center was the perfect setting for the debut of a young talent: Diego Emilio Rodríguez Melo. At just 10 years old, the little author presented his story He Mystery of Sphere City in the context of the Literary Market, an event that brought together families and literature lovers.

The plot takes place in a world where only brave and empathetic children live. However, the harmony of the place is disturbed by a “small problem” that threatens the peace of its inhabitants.

The news announces the presence of a mysterious beast that could be responsible for the disasters in the metropolis. To solve this enigma, the citizens turn to the best investigation team: Manuel, a brave little detective and his three friends.

Accompanied by his parents, María Eugenia Melo and Javier Rodríguez, Diego enthusiastically shared that his work, which took him a year and a half to finish, was inspired by an episode of the famous animated series The Simpsons, titled The Crystal Ball.

With a proud smile, the young author told anecdotes about his creative process, while a room full of attendees listened attentively.

Diego Emilio is not just a writer on the rise; He is also an active collaborator in media such as Radio UNAM, Grupo Imer, Canal 22 and Proyecto Radiomx. His commitment to the dissemination of children’s talent in Mexico has led him to be recognized on multiple occasions.

In April 2022, the National Circle of Journalists (CINPE) awarded him the ‘Golden Sun’ award in the “Children’s Revelation” category, in addition to being named the “Smallest Communicator in Mexico.”

A year later, in February 2023, he received three distinctions from the Senate of the Republic as “Honorary Citizen”, which reaffirms his impact in the field of journalism.

With new projects on the horizon, Diego Emilio Rodríguez is already working on his second story and a chronicle about a pioneering psychedelic rock band in Mexico.
