Diego Maradona Dies, Argentina Sets National Day of Mourning

Argentina just lost one of his best sons, Diego Maradona. The Argentine government has set three days of national mourning.

Diego Maradona died on Wednesday (11/25/2020) evening WIB. The Argentine football legend breathed his last due to cardiac arrest.

Status Maradona as Argentina’s best son on the gridiron can not be denied. He carried Argentina national team won 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

Maradona scored five goals in the tournament, became Argentina’s top scorer and only lost sharply to England striker Gary Lineker in the championship. In that tournament, the world saw Maradona’s magic when he scored a beautiful goal past five English players and goalkeepers.

From the same fight, Maradona earned the nickname ‘The Hand of God’ after scoring a goal by hand against Peter Shilton. The 1986 World Cup title is the last World Cup Argentina can win.

As a form of respect for Diego Maradona, the Argentine government established three days of national mourning. Argentine President Alberto Fernandez even immediately uploaded a photo with Maradona.

“You took us to the highest place in the world. You made us extraordinarily happy. You are the best of all. Thank you for coming, Diego. We will miss you for the rest of our lives,” wrote the Argentine president.
