Diego Lainez’s Struggles in Europe Lead to Uncertain Future in Liga MX

Diego Lainez left América to go to Europe at Betis in 2018 and it has been five years since he managed to establish himself in any team.
After four years of little activity in the Spanish team, the Verdiblancos lent him to Braga in Portugal at the beginning of the 2022-23 season, but he did not get minutes there either, to the point that he was left out of the Mexican National Team for the Qatar World Cup. .
For this first semester, he was loaned to Tigres, with an agreement for the whole of 2023, but in 12 games he only started four, accumulated only 431 minutes and did not score a goal or give an assist.
It seems that his return to Liga MX did not allow Lainez to regain his level, not even to convince the coaching staff or the Tigres board, that they would look for him to leave this summer, according to information from Juan Carloz Zúñiga.
Lainez’s performance has not been enough for Diego Cocca to have called him on April 19 for the Tri’s friendly game against the United States, where both teams played only with elements from their local leagues.
The current Tigres coach, Robert Dante Siboldi, seems to not have Diego Lainez for the next tournament and the Mexican could return to Betis for the 2023-24 season.
