There, IC doctor and chairman of the Dutch Association for Intensive Care Diederik Gommers vaccinated his colleague Tom Burggraaf, an IC nurse. Gommers then received the vaccination from him. Ernst Kuipers of the National Network Acute Care and Minister De Jonge were also there.
“This is a really great feeling”, Gommers said afterwards. “That we got this vaccine done so quickly and that we have now received it. That is really great about science and the pharmaceutical industry, and the collaboration. Really cool. It just feels really good.”
‘New phase’
“The beginning of the end of the crisis really started with this. A hopeful moment. It takes a while before you are protected and we cannot afford for Tom and his colleagues to fall over,” said Minister De Jonge, referring to IC- nurse Tom Viscount.
Gommers also sees vaccination as a new phase. “We have been working towards this for so long. We now have to make sure that everyone is vaccinated in the coming months. And then we will resume our normal life.” Gommers thinks he will be on television a lot less after that. “You won’t know me anymore.”
