Diederik Ebbinge candid about burnout: ‘I couldn’t do anything more’

On the way to the actor’s regular writing place, Diederik talks about this dark time. Diederik wanted to become a film director and combine that with acting, but this caused a lot of stress and financial insecurity. The care of his two children was also added to that and that was too much for Diederik. “I’ve had a hell of a burnout. I couldn’t do anything anymore. I had a lot of anxiety attacks and panic,” he says. “I couldn’t work anymore. That’s so bizarre. That you just can’t take it anymore. I haven’t worked for eight months.”

After working hard with therapy and mindfulness, Diederik could take it again. “It really did change me. I have become a good family man who lives more responsibly and no longer does six projects at the same time,” says Diederik. The actor also indicates that he now pays much more attention to his limits. ”I now feel signals much faster that you think: now you have to watch out again, boy. And then I’ll take it easy.”

In Rooijakkers Over the Floor the presenter visits several well-known Dutch people. In the first episode of the new season, the presenter settles down on the couch with 27-year-old Donnie, the native Amsterdammer who grew from a stuttering boy into a successful rapper. He talks candidly about fatherhood and the difficult relationship with his father. Rooijakkers Over The Floor can be seen weekly at 9.30 pm on RTL 4 or can be viewed at Videoland.
