Bortsov died at home in Lebedyan, Lipetsk region, and will be buried in Moscow.
Bortsov was a member of the State Duma since 2003 and served in five convocations of the Russian Parliament. He was a member of the Committee on Nationalities.
Bortsov was on the list of the richest Russian citizens of Forbes.
In 2021, the magazine estimated his worth at $550 million.
Bortsov’s capital was mainly obtained from the funds received when he and his partners sold 75.5 percent of the Lebeyansky fruit juice factory, which produces several well-known Russian juice brands, to PepsiCo.
In 2021, “Forbes” included Bortsova in the top 100 government employees with the highest income. At that point, his income was estimated at more than 800 million rubles ($9.8 million) a year.
Bortsov was subjected to sanctions by several Western countries after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Ukraine sentenced him and several other members of the State Duma to 15 years in prison in absentia for recognizing the independence of the self-proclaimed “people’s republics” of Donetsk and Luhansk.
The Central Election Commission of Russia has announced that elections will be held in September to find out who will replace Bortsov in the State Duma.
