Die Borussen Wins Half a Dozen Goals

Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund rampage in the cage when facing Borussia Monchengladbach. Once the match ended, Die Borussen won 6-0.

In the match which was held at Signal-Iduna Park, Sunday (20/2/2022) night WIB, Dortmund, who appeared without Erling Haaland, relied on Donyell Malen, Marco Reus, and Thorgan Hazard in attack.

They had a chance before 10 minutes into the game through Malen and Reyna, one of whom was deflected by Yann Sommer. Meanwhile, Gladbach stole a chance late Ramy Bensebaini.

After a series of failed attack attempts, Dortmund finally got a goal in the 26th minute. Quick attack from the left side ended with Malen’s bait into the middle of the penalty box.

The wild ball failed to be swept away by the Gladbach defense and was easily leaked by Reus to break into Sammer’s goal. After conceding, Gladbach responded through Jonas Hoffman in the 30th minute.

Hoffmann got a through ball from Breel Embolo to get a good shooting position, but Gregor Kobel quickly parried it.

Dortmund then doubled the score in the 32nd minute when Reus gave the ball to Malen who escaped the offside trap. When faced with Sommer, Malen shot and the ball went into the goal.

Unfortunately Dortmund’s advantage in the first half came at a cost when Reyna was sent off in the 30th minute due to injury. Even though this is Reyna’s comeback match after five months out with a hamstring injury.

In the second half, Dortmund struggled to add goals at least until the 70th minute before Marius Wolf made it 3-0 for the hosts. Reus provided a mature pass to Wolf who kicked the ball into the left corner of Sommer’s goal.

Reus was again a Gladbach defensive nightmare when he took the lead on the counter-attack four minutes later. Once near the penalty box, Reus sent the ball to Youssoufa Moukoko who cheated the ball from close range.

Dortmund increased their lead to 5-0 in the 81st minute with Reus’ second goal, who followed Mats Hummels’ through ball and slotted the ball into the left corner.

Dortmund’s goal feast was closed by an Emre Can penalty in the 91st minute after Wolfs had been fouled in the forbidden box. Borussia Dortmund won 6-0 and was solid in second place Bundesliga standings with 49 points from 23 matches, six points from Bayern Munich in the top position. Borussia Moenchengladbach are in 13th position with 26 points.
