Die 9/11 – Tour in New York | Qultur

The name “Ground Zero” used today was borrowed from the military. This is used when there is a bomb strike that hits the earth vertically and thus hits a crater.

“Ground Zero” has been on everyone’s lips since November 9, 2001, because this is exactly what happened to the World Trade Center. 18 years later, a completely new quarter has arisen around it. Over the years I have been able to observe how the structure is being built, which I find very exciting.

What has always fascinated me in the USA are the monuments! Since they don’t have such a long and rich history as the Europeans, this cult seems to me as if one had to make one’s own history more important than it is. In every federal state there are such places of worship that have been built with a lot of passion.

In the case of Ground Zero, however, an entire district was created if you measure that against the area of Switzerland. For New York City the space is certainly big, but in relation to the city it is not a real quarter.

What actually surprised me is that the buildings have shot up again. The observatory is even higher than the Empire State Building. The tower of the new W1 (World Trade Center) measures 1776 feet, which is supposed to represent a tribute to the year the USA was founded.

The fountain in the middle of the square, where the original towers stood, is absolutely a feast for the eyes. The water in it reflects the whole environment when the sun dances across the light blue sky. The names of the victims are also engraved on the edge of the well.

The old station was rebuilt so that a new, huge underground station has now been created. The shopping arcades are of a different quality than our Shopville in Zurich. The size is terrifying, but it definitely needs it during rush hour. There are many workers who frequent the station as they live in Jersey and work in the city. It’s like here, rents in town are just overpriced when compared to Jersey.

This “new” train station is now part of Ground Zero and should be visited just like everything else in the Finacedistrict. Unfortunately, it was not possible for me to visit the many other places that make up the district during this visit!

So, without further ado, I wrote “Live six months in New York” on my wish list.
