LFF informs that in accordance with the decision made by the Board on Tuesday, Didzis Matīss has been fired from the position of the head coach of the Latvian national women’s football team.
The decision was made after evaluating the recent results of the Latvian national team and taking into account the imminent start of the national team in the 2023 World Cup qualification tournament, where Latvian representatives are waiting for games against England, Austria, Northern Ireland, Northern Macedonia and Luxembourg from this year to September next year.
In the opinion of the LFF Board, this is a good time to offer the state unit a new perspective on its development and to introduce new winds in its daily life.
LFF would like to thank Matīs for his long, productive and active work with the Latvian national team, during which recognizable results have been achieved and the Latvian women’s football system has been helped to take several steps forward.
Matīss has been leading the Latvian national women’s football team since 2010, replacing Agri Bandoli.
The LFF Coaches Council, the LFF administration and the LFF president are instructed to evaluate and submit to the LFF board a list of candidates for this position by 30 July. The LFF administration, in consultation with the LFF Women’s Football Committee, has been instructed to submit the renewed Latvian women’s football development concept until the next LFF board meeting.
