On Sunday, the new documentary about the Swedish king had its pre-premiere on Swedish cinema screens, and although many are looking forward to the documentary, there is one person who is not as excited about how the result turned out – namely the main actor himself.
The film also has its regular premiere on 24 February.
The detail attracts attention
Now reports, among other things Swedish Lady and The Express that King Carl Gustav did not appear at his own premiere party.
The king’s absence is also confirmed by director Karin af Klintberg.
– No, the king will not attend the preview. He has also stated in the film that he has no desire to see it when it is finished either, she stated to Svensk Dam.
She added that it was currently uncertain whether anyone in the Swedish royal family would appear during Sunday’s pre-premiere, but points out that she still wants to make arrangements for the royal family to be able to see the film if they wish.
– We humans are still curious about us, so I will make sure that the royal family gets the opportunity to watch the film under conditions that suit them, Klintberg replies.
Criticism after statement
The Swedish king has recently been criticized for his statement in an interview in SVTs documentary «Sweden’s last kings» which premiered on 12 January.
On to the final
There, the king is critical of the change in the line of succession which led to his son Carl Phillip losing the crown prince title.
After the interview with the king, the videographer was summoned by the court, who proposed a new interview in which the king would be able to clarify what he thinks about the succession to the throne.
In the new interview, the head of state apparently sticks to his point of view.
“It has hurt me deeply when I have subsequently read comments that claim that I would not recognize my daughter as a princess,” the king clarified later in a statement.
In the third relevant documentary “The King with Two Faces” which is broadcast on Discovery Plus, the king has not been interviewed at all.
