It was only a matter of time, now it’s official: Didier Deschamps has been extended by the FFF and will remain coach of the French football team until June 2026. A logical choice after taking the Blues to the 2022 World Cup final, but something that pleases some fans who were especially waiting to see Zinedine Zidane land on the bench.
Didier Deschamps extends with the French team
Having arrived at the helm of the French team on 9 July 2012, Didier Deschamps has the guarantee of continuing his adventure with the Blues until June 2026. After several weeks of reflection, the coach and Noël Le Graët – president of the FFF, have in fact decided renew the contract that will take him to Germany for Euro 2024 and to America for the 2026 World Cup (although this last point remains unclear, given that this competition will extend until… July. Strange).
A surprising decision? Not really. As the FFF reminds us in its press release, Didier Deschamps has an absolutely incredible statistical record since he took over the reins of EDF with 89 wins, 28 draws and 22 defeats in 139 games with 279 goals scored and 119 conceded. In terms of prizes, it is also impressive as the French team won the 2018 World Cup and 2021 Nations League, and were finalists for Euro 2016 and 2022 World Cup.
