Saturday night was the last live performance of the Schleswig-Holstein New music Festival (SHMF) in Kiel: “Porgy and Bess” with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra and celebrated New York opera soloists. But now they are producing accusations of racism immediately after getting checked for drugs and weapons by customs on the road from Hamburg to Kiel.
Opera singers were being touring north on the A7 from Hamburg airport in several vans. On Friday they were being chased out of customs in the Bönningstedt relaxation region and had to exhibit their documents. Many soloists and singers reported they felt stopped just simply because of the coloration of their skin.
