The environmental mayor of Grenoble had decided to authorize it in municipal swimming pools for this summer. Except that the Council of State had killed his project in the bud.
This episode had regional consequences, with the total cessation of subsidies from Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes to the town hall of Grenoble. In addition to the wrath of Laurent Wauquiez, Eric Piolle had seen his majority be totally divided on the issue. On May 16, 29 municipal councilors voted for the authorization of the burkini, and 27 against. This implied that 13 elected members of the majority were opposed.
This Monday, the last council before the summer vacation was an opportunity for the ecologist councilor from Isère to clean up his entourage. Eric Piolle obtained the resignation of his 22 deputies (one more than Grégory Doucet in Lyon!), officially to replace Elisa Martin, 1st deputy elected LFI deputy in the last legislative elections. A departure which was to arrange some of them since she was part of the 13 Revolted of Burkini.
Hakim Sabri is also one of the demoted. Historic finance assistant to Eric Piolle, he was only assistant in sector 4 after Monday’s vote. Publicly, he indicates having made the request to the mayor because he would have fallen into a routine. But it turns out that he too had opposed the authorization of Islamic swimsuits in swimming pools on May 16.
Pascal Clouaire and Lionel Picollet suffered the same fate: delegated municipal councilors, they saw their missions being withdrawn from them. Their common point? Yours against the burkini.
