13th round: Kladno – Mlada Boleslav
A rule break was ahead of the guests’ equalizing goal at 1:1 already. The skaters did not take turns and according to a video that was made again, six of them were on the ice at one time, but none of the four judges noticed. It was Jan Buchtele, who jumped in as the sixth, who caught Kladno’s pass and found Julio Junttila, who got through.
The borderline situation then occurred even before Boleslav’s third goal. Goalkeeper David Bernad disarmed Mitch Hults in the defensive zone on the edge of humiliation, then David Dvořáček scored from the counterattack. The home fans were booing, but even this goal was worth it. “I saw so much there today, but I can’t say anything about it,” Kladno coach David Čermák said before the game.
The referee’s communication also surprised the coach when Antonín Melka was sent off, who received a five-minute penalty in the end and until the end of the game. “The referees told me that they saw the slashing, so they are going to watch the video,” said Čermák.
However, it was not about splitting at all. Outside, Melka hit the goal striker Filip Suchý in the head with his shoulder, after which he drew a higher penalty for illegal defending. The Knights had less than two minutes left after the defensive weakness and could not equalize, on the other hand, Boleslav got the victory with a shot into Buchtel’s empty goal.
Kladno paid the price for four unused power plays, in which they could not even create any significant chances. “We were completely disappointed and disappointed in them, we lost the game,” lamented captain Radek Smoleňák, who marked his 400th non-league game with a goal, but not a victory.
The 52-year-old game owner Jaromír Jágr was missing from Central Bohemia for the first time in the season. He did not finish Wednesday’s game in Vítkovice. On Sunday, he wasn’t even on the bench, he watched the duel from the stands with his girlfriend Dominika Branišová by his side. “Before the game, he was just showering in the cabin,” said defender Jiří Ticháček.
However, Jagr’s absence should be short-lived. It is not an injury. “A virus entered our cabin last week. Actually, there is only one problem,” said coach Čermák. And Jágr indicated on his Instagram that he will be back soon. “I’m not playing today yet, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the Knights,” wrote the legendary striker, who could jump into Friday’s clash against Pardubice.
Despite the defeat, Kladno still holds an excellent sixth place, he managed the first quarter of the regular season better than expected. “We still have a lot of work to do. It only takes a few games and we can fail,” Čermák realized. “Of course it’s not bad, we take it with humility. We have enough points, but we also lost a lot of them because of our naivety,” said Smoleňák .
