After being forced to go home from the junior WC earlier than planned, the Swedish team got to experience scary scenes on the plane. At Finland’s level, it was messy – neither Russian nor Czech players were allowed on the trip.

It was disappointed Swedish U20 national team players who jumped on the home flight across the Atlantic after JVM was canceled due to corona fall.

The journey home just before New Year was dramatic. Other passengers were also on the trip and one of them had a cardiac arrest.

The plane therefore made an emergency landing in Iceland.

– A passenger had a cardiac arrest and collapsed. Our team doctor, Ryan Allenby, started cardiopulmonary resuscitation immediately. We do not know how it went with the person, but hopefully it went well, says player Isak Rosén Aftonbladet.

– Ryan did an incredible job. It was very dramatic and when you think back you get a little perspective on everything. I really hope the person is well.

Do not know how it went for the person

The doctor himself tells Allenby that he just fell asleep when he was awakened by a panicked player. He and a medical student worked on cardiopulmonary resuscitation for 45 minutes.

– The student, me and a flight attendant kept her alive until we landed in Iceland. She was alive when the ambulance staff at the airport took over, he tells the newspaper.

Allenby does not know how it went for the person.

– The airline would get in touch as soon as they found out something. But it feels like it was 50-50 that she survived. We did everything we could to save her life.

Czech and Russian laws thrown out

In the plane where Finland’s troops were, it was messy. SVT reporter Marie Lehmann was on the trip and wrote on Twitter that the Russian and Czech JVM teams were thrown out before the start.

“Drunkenness, smoking and refusal to wear a face mask are some of the reasons. The Finnish team has to go with them,” Lehmann reported.

But in the Czech Republic, it is said that only the Russians did not behave. Czech coach Otakar Cerny said Czech television that it was a misunderstanding.

– It was a very strange situation. We arrived at Calgary Airport about three hours before the flight. Our players bought souvenirs and called home. At the same time, Russian players were sitting in the bar, Cerny said.

The Czech journalist Robert Zaruba wrote on Twitter that the Czechs had been expelled because they had similar team shirts as Russia. Both were dressed in gray. The airline will later have realized its mistake and paid new hotel and flight costs for the Czech Republic.
