AThere is a lot of work to be done when starting a business. The founders build a network, find investors, promote the production of their product, take care of marketing and sales. And all without the certainty that their idea will work. With the onset of the pandemic and the associated uncertainty, it took even more courage than before to found a company. Those who had already founded a company were forced to rethink. While many have been busy with the further development of their products, others have adapted their offer to the situation.
Just like Tec4med. The first pandemic year 2020 was drawing to a close when the long-awaited vaccination campaign could finally begin at the turn of the year, albeit not smoothly. In Upper Franconia, for example, about 1,000 doses of the vaccine had to be thrown away because they got too hot during transport. Darmstadt start-up Tec4med, which Nico Höler and two of his university friends founded in 2017, found a solution to precisely this problem. The company has developed refrigerated boxes specifically for temperature-sensitive medical products such as vaccines, which can use sensors to send information about their contents to the recipient or to other third parties. The so-called Nelumbox feeds its energy from an electric battery that can be recharged on the go. The system works in complete autonomy and cools down to the previously set temperature.
