Did Chickens Evolve from Dinosaurs? T-Rex Protein Similarities Discovered

Kobaran.com – According to history, 65 million years ago, an asteroid hit Earth and caused the mass extinction of a large number of species, including almost all types of dinosaurs.

However, a group of dinosaurs reportedly survived the disaster and evolved into a bird species. The fossil evidence of ancient birds found by scientists supports this claim.

In 2007, researchers successfully sequenced the proteins of a Tyrannosaurus or T-Rex, leading to the discovery that many of these molecules show an uncanny resemblance to those of chickens.

Yes, chicken. It turns out that one of the most feared types of dinosaurs, T-Rex, bears a resemblance to chickens, the very common fowl we consume every day.

This discovery was made by Mary Schweitzer, a paleontologist from North Carolina State University who led a research team in analyzing the 68-million-year-old T-Rex leg bones found in 2003 in Montana.

To his surprise, Schweitzer found that the leg bones still contained a matrix of collagen fibers, the proteins that give bones structure and flexibility.

Using tools normally used to identify and sequence proteins in human cancers, Professor Schweitzer and colleagues at Harvard University Medical Center were able to extract and sequence seven different T-Rex proteins.

The results of the analysis show that the arrangement of collagen in T-Rex is almost identical to modern chickens that are still alive today.

Three of the seven T-Rex proteins are compatible with chickens, two are compatible with frogs and lizards, and the rest are compatible with several organisms, including chickens and newts.

One of the researchers involved, John Asara of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, said the results support the view that birds evolved from dinosaurs.

He added that while it may be possible to find similarities between T-Rex proteins and other animal species that exist today, chickens are still the animal that bears the closest resemblance of all.
