Did BodyArmor Drink Cause Vitamin B6 Poisoning

TikToker Claims BodyArmor Energy Drink Led to Neurological Problems

A woman, Allison Holder (@allisonholder8), is raising concerns about the potential dangers of excessive vitamin B6 consumption after claiming that drinking BodyArmor energy drinks caused debilitating neurological problems.

In a viral TikTok video, Holder details her experience, explaining that she started experiencing numbness in her fingers and feet, ultimately leading to her inability to use her hands. After consulting a physician, she was diagnosed with B6 toxicity, which she attributes to her consumption of BodyArmor.

“Starting in March, my three fingers started to feel a little numb. On both hands. By the end of the week, I couldn’t feel my hands at all and my feet were pretty numb,” she recounts. "Thankfully, I have a brilliant physician. She’s a young millennial and she knew right away it was something to do with B vitamins.”

Holder emphasizes that she believes many people suffering from conditions like Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) may actually have undiagnosed B6 toxicity.

“They aren’t diagnosed for years. This poisoning isn’t rare; it’s just undiagnosed,” she states in her video.

Holder urges her fellow healthcare professionals to consider B vitamin levels when diagnosing patients with new onset acute neuropathy.

Her message extends to BodyArmor as well. "And to BodyArmor: Your product is poison," she declares, adding, "You should put a skull and crossbones on it. I cannot tell you how bad this is. So after my hands went numb, they recovered. Then my feet are the problem.”

She then juxtaposes a video clip from six months ago, showing herself lifting weights, with a more recent clip depicting her struggling to climb stairs.

"All this for trying to hydrate," she concludes. "I encourage everyone to be very careful with the amount of B6 you are consuming. It is the only vitamin that in excess can hurt you. The rest of them you just piss out."

While BodyArmor did not immediately respond to requests for comment, numerous health experts warn of the potential dangers of excessive B6 consumption. The National Institute of Health Office of Dietary Supplements recommends a daily intake of 1.5-1.7 milligrams for adults over 51. However, BodyArmor contains 2.55 milligrams per serving, and with multiple servings per container, exceeding the recommended intake can be easy.

Holder’s video has sparked a conversation about the potential dangers of vitamin overconsumption, particularly when it comes to popular beverages like BodyArmor. While drink companies are not required to list the potential side effects of excessive intake on their products, consumer awareness of these risks is crucial.
