Dick Advocaat has already announced his retirement from football a few times, but each time he gave in to the prospect of a new challenge. That is different now, emphasizes the ex-national coach of Belgium.
“Feyenoord is a great club to end with after a long and wonderful career,” he says. “I know I’ve said it before, but this time you can stick to it: the coming months will be my last as a club trainer.”
At the age of 73, Lawyer was already the oldest trainer ever active at the highest level in the Netherlands. He would like to end his career with a prize. He was previously champion with PSV (1997), 2-time champion with the Glasgow Rangers (1999 and 2000) and champion with Zenit (2007). He also won the UEFA Cup with the latter club.
“Dick is a great personality and passionate trainer”, says Frank Arnesen, technical director at Feyenoord. “We are happy and proud that he has chosen to end his long and wonderful career with us.”
