DICE Will Change Maps in Battlefield 2042

In a blogpost the developer has elaborated on the problems players experience around the maps of Battlefield 2042. The most important one is without a doubt the endless running and running in the game. DICE recognizes that players think it’s a ‘walking simulator’ and they want to work hard on it. By placing capture points closer together, DICE hopes to create fewer marathons. Furthermore, there are not clear paths to the objectives, the maps are too big and open, so you can almost always be hit and seen.

The acknowledgment of these issues goes so far that DICE will make future maps smaller. Remember when there were “only in Battlefield” videos? Pepperidge farm remembers… Nowadays the battlefield of BF 2042 has become too chaotic to have a little overview. That is why we now also look at the number of players in a game. 128 people is really a lot and DICE is considering reducing that number to 64 in the Breakthrough mode.

With a postponement of the first season until summer(!) and a scoreboard delayed by a week it remains to be seen how quickly these important improvements will be implemented. In the blog post, DICE warns that it will take some time. While quality is more important than ever for Battlefield 2042, the Watch doubts it’s too late for the game. Let’s hope the franchise can still be saved.
