SHARJAH, May 23rd, 2020 / WAM / The activities of the sixth session of the “Dibba Al-Hisn Festival for Dual Theater” will start next Friday evening, which is organized by the Theater Department of the Department of Culture in Sharjah, and its activities will be hosted by the Cultural Center of the city of Dibba Al-Hisn, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi. Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah.
The festival is concerned with theatrical performances that build their aesthetics and implications on a dramatic confrontation between two characters on stage. It hosts five Arab performances.
The sixth session of the festival will open at seven in the evening next Friday, with the Emirati show “It Happened Once” by the Dibba Al-Hisn Association for Culture, Heritage and Theater, prepared and directed by Muhannad Karim, and represented by Nabil Al-Mazmi and Sharif Omar.
On the second day, the audience witnesses the Syrian show “The Circus” presented by the National Theater Group, written by Azwaldo Drakone, and prepared and directed by Ayman Zidan, with Hazem Zidan and Lama Abdel Karim participating in the show.
On the third day, the Egyptian show “The Window” will be presented by the Meshwar theatrical troupe, written by Arniush Iridinsky, directed by Muhammad Morsi, and embodied by the actors Islam Abdel Shafie and Radwa Hassan.
On the fourth day, the Multaqa al-Dilal troupe from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan will present the play “Natural View”, written by Harold Pinter, directed by Dalal Al-Fayyad, and performed by Bakr Al-Zoubi and Yasmine Al-Dalu. On the last day, the Kuwaiti theater group will present the play “Al-Shafaf”, written by Fawzi Al-Gharib, and directed by Ahmed Al-Salman, who also participates in its embodiment alongside the actress Samah.
These presentations are followed by critical seminars that read their artistic merits and intellectual orientations. Ibrahim Al-Qahoumi from the Emirates, Anwar Muhammad from Syria, Issam Abu Al-Ela from Egypt, Omar Naqrash from Jordan, and Mashari Hamed from Kuwait participate in these seminars.
The festival organizes three training workshops aimed at theater animators in Sharjah schools, which are the “Shadow Imagination” workshop under the supervision of the Palestinian Fayrouz Nastas, the “Principles of Directing in School Theatre” workshop, which is supervised by the Moroccan Sufyan Al-Masoudi, and the “Voice of the Actor” workshop, which is supervised by the Egyptian Rania Yahya.
The parallel program of the festival is full of many activities, most notably the eighteenth edition of the Sharjah Forum for Arab Theatre, which is organized under the title “Theater and Music”, with the participation of a group of Arab researchers and theater practitioners. .
Participating in the forum are: Abdullah Rashid from the Emirates, Yasmine Al-Faraj, Rania Yahya, Hani Afifi from Egypt, Abdel Majeed Fneish and Rashid Broumi from Morocco, Aisha Galali and Nawfal Lazzara from Tunisia, and Raad Khalaf from Iraq.
The festival management invited a group of theatrical faces to follow up on the activities of this session, which will conclude on Tuesday evening, May 30, including five former participants in the “Sharjah Forum for Early Arab Theatre”, which annually celebrates a group of outstanding theatrical institutes and colleges in Arab countries, and they are: Asala Kawas from Tunisia, Elsa Dawalibi from Lebanon, Sufyan Al-Masoudi from Morocco, Ghada Abu Warda from Egypt, and Marah Yassin from Jordan.
The Dibba Al-Hisn Bilateral Theater Festival was established in 2016, within the framework of the Department of Culture’s strategy aimed at spreading and diversifying theatrical activity in the emirate, and building and strengthening bridges of communication and knowledge exchange between local playwrights and their brothers in the Arab world.
