For seven years I lived with people from different nations. I talked to Spaniards, Norwegians, Englishmen, Scots and Dutch.
Christmas with the Silver Boys
But it was the Norwegians I spent most time with, and I spent most of the Christmas evenings with the sound of the Silver Boys singing into Christmas. Together we argued and laughed, celebrated victories from the world of sports and cried together when we lost someone. Norwegians are one of the most peaceful and sympathetic peoples in this world. And I know how strong you are.
And since you are peaceful, you are also generous. It was the Norwegians who fed me when I had no food. It was the Norwegians who gave me a roof over my head when I had no place to live.
Today, every minute and every second of this war, Ukraine and the Ukrainian people need the same roof over their heads. We need a safe heaven. Every day rockets come from heaven towards our earth, towards our people – women and children. Sent by Putin from their territories, from Belarusian territories, from a plane that does not cross the border once.
Need air corridor
In the meantime, my hometown of Kherson needs a humanitarian corridor. To evacuate women and children, to evacuate the injured and for the civilians who have died. We need a corridor to bring food and medicine into town.
Escape from Kyiv: – Full panic
The Russian military does not allow this, and denies all means of communication. In fact, by blocking my hometown, the Russian armed forces are holding a whole peaceful city with 300,000 people hostage. My hometown is not a military facility. Peaceful Ukrainians live there, my close friends and their families live there. My mother lives there.
Every day we say to each other – Hope we talk tomorrow.
And when asked how you are, we always answer the same thing.
– I live.
Ukraine’s armed forces are strongly opposed to Putin’s occupying forces. But the biggest problem remains – the sky is still unsafe over our heads
All of Ukraine is calling for help from NATO, give us a no-fly zone. But NATO refuses.
People in Norway, you live in a democratic country, your Storting represents your interests, they listen to you. Many of you ask me directly – how can you help Ukraine in this situation. Well, you can try to persuade the Storting to close the skies over Ukraine so that Russian rockets stop falling on our people and kill them – our women, our children.
Bringing refugees to Norway: – Strongest I have experienced
Everyone feels the tragedy
This war has already touched and affected every single person in Europe. Every family feels the tragedy in their hearts. Over a million people have already fled Ukraine.
This war will affect everyone in Europe. Europe has not achieved much here in Ukrainian territories. If you protect our skies now, this will be of great help to Europe, which will be less affected by the ravages of war.
