Diananda Choirunisa Aims for Asian Games 2023 and Paris 2024 Olympics, Targeting South Korean Team

Indonesian Archer Diananda Choirunisa carries high targets in Asian Games 2023 for tickets Paris 2024 Olympics. Including containing the strong South Korean team.

Diananda anticipates very tight competition at the 2023 Asian Games. This is because South Korea has not yet secured a ticket for the 2024 Olympics, which means it will be all out.

“Because yesterday Korea didn’t get any tickets for the Berlin (2023 World Archery Championships) women’s recurve event, so the competition will be tough,” said Diananda on the sidelines of the launch of the Indonesian Team jersey, at the KOI Office, Saturday (9/9/2023) .

Throughout the Asian Games, the South Korean archery team dominated. It is recorded that the country which is famous for its K-Pop has collected 83 medals. Consisting of 42 gold, 25 silver and 16 bronze medals.

They also became overall champions from the 1982 to 2018 Jakarta Asian Games. Japan became overall champion for the first time at the 1978 Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand. Meanwhile, Indonesia only got three silvers and two bronzes.

Diananda is quite optimistic about the preparations made so far. The Indonesian archery team is currently focusing on training in the Jababeka area.

“Now we have entered preparations, we are at 90 percent. We have also been training, mentally too, hopefully we can get (Olympic tickets),” said Diananda.

Currently, Indonesian archery has secured a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics, namely in the name of Arif Dwi Pangestu.

19 year old Arif pocketed the ticket after becoming a men’s recurve semifinalist at the 2023 World Archery Championships, in Berlin, Germany, 31 July – 6 August.

So, at the Asian Games which took place in Hangzhou, China, 23 September-8 October, Indonesia only had the opportunity to look for tickets for mixed team numbers and individual women’s recurve numbers. Because Indonesia already has one men’s recurve individual slot.
